The point or doubt raised by Sri Sreedharan Kutty on my request that Padayani is not be misunderstood as a form of ancient tribal or aboriginal ritual dance..Well my request is to the readers /viewers of this Padayani website.They might incline to think that Padayani is some sort of tribal ritual dance like the ritual dances and celebrations which still exist in its pure tribal form,in some tribal regions of India,Africa,Amazon region of South America, and Australia.Padayani certainly has a history dating back to our ancient tribal rituals.But over the centuries down,it was innovated by our ancestors into the present sophisticated ,artistic,Classical Art Form with a high degree of aesthetic awareness.From tribal,it evolved owing to the efforts of talented artists, into the present Classical Form.Certainly it still has some elements like high pitch rhythmic martial shouts and virile steps etc..The transition from tribal saktheya rituals to pure Satwika forms in several aspects also helped in the evolution, Hence readers must be told that this is an art form that has now reached the highest point of evolution,Classical with all its
beauty,a harmonious blending of several art forms.Such an art form must not be misunderstood as Tribal ,though its earliest form is tribal..that is what i meant in that context.

Dear Mr.Dinamani,

Respect your tremendous knowledge in the area.i would like to have a small
doubt in the writing as you specified that "readers shouldn't misuderstand
it as an ancient tribal.

I feel the ritual of KOOOOO KU itself is a part derived from tribals who all
are our forfathers/owners were language was a barrier. Especially
Neelamperoor padayani is a form which was originated/taken out from the
essence of a tribal art. i would be glad to receive your comment on to it.
please note that this is my way of thinking/observation.

ഇവിടെ സജിത്തിന്റെ അഭിപ്രായം വളരെ നല്ല രീതിയില്‍ യുക്തിയോടെ ചിന്തിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കലാകാരന്റെ ആണ്...സജിതിനെ പോലുള്ള കലയെ ഇത്ര ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ അടുത്ത അറിഞ്ഞവര്‍ നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലുന്ടെന്നുള്ളത് നമ്മുടെ അഭിമാനം തന്നെ ആണ്... നമ്മുടെ നീലമ്പേരൂര്‍ നീലകണ്ഠന്‍ ( ആന) കഴിഞ്ഞ രണ്ടു വര്‍ഷമായി സജിത്തിന്റെയും ഉണ്ണിയുടെയും കലാവിരുത് തന്നെ ആണ്...അതിനു അവര്‍ രാവും പകലും ധാരാളം മിനക്കെട്ടിട്ടും ഉണ്ട്...

കഥകളി വേഷങ്ങള്‍ പടയണിയിലെ കോലങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതില്‍ സ്വാധീനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ തന്നെ...പടയണിയിലെ നിറങ്ങള്‍ കഥകളി വേഷങ്ങളെയും സ്വാധീനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.....

Mahakavi Ulloor in his History of Kerala literature says Kottarakkara Thampuran while designing for Ramanattam and earlier Kathakali costumes etc ,he depended very much on Padayani costumes etc which were popular since centuries.

നീലമ്പേരൂര്‍ പടയനിയിലെ നിറങ്ങള്‍ പച്ച , ചുവപ്പ്, മഞ്ഞ ആണ്. ഈ മൂന്നു നിറങ്ങളുടെയും പ്രത്യേകതെ ഇവയില്‍ രണ്ടാമത്തെ രണ്ടുനിരങ്ങളും പ്രാഥമിക വര്‍ണങ്ങള്‍ ആണ് എന്നുള്ളത് ആണ്. പച്ച ദ്വിതീയ വര്‍ണം ആണ് .മഞ്ഞയും ചുവപ്പും ചേര്‍ന്നാണ് പച്ച ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത്.കണ്ണിനു കുളിര്‍മ നല്‍കുന്ന നിറം ആണ് പച്ച. നീലമ്പേരൂര്‍ പടയണി കോലങ്ങളുടെ പ്രഥമ നിറം പച്ച ആണ്. ഇവിടെ മഞ്ഞ പുനര്‍ജനിക്കുന്നത് രാത്രിയിലെ ചുട്ടു വെട്ടത്തില്‍ ആണ് . വാഴപ്പോലയുടെ പ്രതലത്തില്‍ നിന്ന്നും പ്രതിഫലിക്കുന്ന ചുട്ടു വെട്ടത്തിന് മഞ്ഞ നിറം ആയിരിക്കും. മഞ്ഞ നിറം ഉപയോഗിക്കാതെ, ആ നിമിഷത്തില്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയെടുക്കുന്നതാണ് പടയനിയിലെ കല .അതിവിധഗ്തമായി നമ്മുടെ പൂര്‍വികര്‍ ഇതു നമ്മള്‍ക് കാട്ടിതന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.സ്വര്‍ണ വര്ണമാം അരയന്നം എന്നാണ് പറയുന്നത്, വെളുത്ത അരയന്നം എന്നല്ല. ഇതില്‍ നിന്നും ചിത്രകലയുടെ ആരംഭത്തില്‍ അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ അതിനു മുന്‍പ് ഉടലെടുത്തതാണ് പടയണി എന്ന് പറയാം.

കഥകളി പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടില്‍ ജന്മം കൊണ്ട ഒരു കലാരൂപം ആണ് .നീലമ്പേരൂര്‍ കഥകളിയില്‍ പ്രാവിണ്യമുല്ല ഒരു ഗ്രാമം ആയിരുന്നതിനാല്‍ അതിന്ടെ സ്വാധീനം പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് കോലങ്ങളുടെ ചമയങ്ങളില്‍ ഉണ്ടായി എന്ന് വേണം അനുമാനിക്കാന്‍. കോലങ്ങള്‍ കലാകാരന് പൂര്‍ണ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം തരുന്നുണ്ട്. ഏതുവിധത്തിലും അതിനെ മാറ്റാം, അന്നതിന്റെ പണി പോലെ ചിട്ട വട്ടങ്ങള്‍ ഇല്ല.

മറ്റു പടയണിയില്‍ നിന്നും ഇതിനുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം ചായക്കൂട്ടുകള്‍ ഇല്ലാതെ പ്രകൃതിയിലെ പച്ച, വെള്ള, ചുവപ്പു എന്നീ വര്‍ണങ്ങളുടെ സമ്മേളനം ആണ്... കഥകളി വേഷം നോക്കിയാലും മനസ്സിലാകും ഈ വര്‍ണങ്ങള്‍ തന്നെയാണ് അവിടെയും. നീലമ്പേരൂര്‍ പടയണി കഥകളി വേഷങ്ങളെ സ്വാധീനിച്ചിരിക്കും എന്നൂഹിക്കാം.
